Natural Dyes
I began my journey down this particular rabbit hole because I wanted to dye my own yarn and avoid some of the heavy metals and other concerns that come with synthetic dyes. Once I got started, however, I was absolutely hooked by the way natural dyes work. As a natural dyer, I have to coax the colors I want from these plants (and bugs) by intentional choices of mordants and careful adjustments to heat, pH, and mineral content in the dye bath. Now, I want to share that with everyone!
American Fiber
I source my yarns from Meridian Mill House in North Carolina. I chose to partner with them because of their commitment to responsible fiber sourcing and transparency. All wool that I dye is from the Shaniko Wool Company and all cotton is sourced from the United States. Some bases that I use include fibers such as flax or silk from other countries - these are all noted in the descriptions.
